The Commodore Ballroom boasts quite a history in Vancouver. Acting as a MUST PLAY venue for some of the best acts on the circuit, Live Nation spared no expense and brought in just that. A good week before their big Coachella appearance, the “Band Of Skulls” stopped off in Vancouver to give us all a taste of their sound… live!

The moments leading up to the anticipated “dimming lights” was thrilling, an eager mixed crowd of fans repeatedly chanting “BAND OF SKULLS!” filled the air close to their scheduled set time in hopes of getting the band on stage quicker. On cue, the lights dim out and the music starts.

Taking the stage at an absolutely packed ( sold out) concert, the crowd prepared themselves for what would be a very memorable show. Having the opportunity to exchange words with some of the concert goers, a quote stuck out in my mind: “They struck a nerve with this generation, the Band Of Skulls are well on their way to making it!”. That sentence alone set the bar high.

As expected, the band held the crowd. Their performance and sound was on par with their studio album(s). In addition, the trio was beautifully coordinated, leaving no room for mistakes. Combining a set list of both old and new tunes, Sweet Sour (which is also the title of their new album) took the night in a new direction that complimented their old sound, but left the room ecstatic, singing along to the catchy lyrics and looking forward to the new.

Looking over the night, the general vibe and tone was brilliant. The Band of Skulls definitely showcased their music in a manner that will be talked about for a very long time (or until they roll through Vancouver again.)

Recalling tidbits from a night that can only be described as electric, Deadbeat Digital was at the Yelle & French Horn Rebellion concert in full force absorbing the vibe that drove the crowd in a frenzy. Both acts played full live sets at Vancouver on May 13th. Entering a dimly lit room at the Commodore Ballroom, which is one of the premiere venues that Vancouver has to offer for big room acts. The excitement in the air lingered while the tension grew thick… a DJ mix filled the space whilst the growing masses entered the room.
